'Phil Mitchell's Confession'
Date: 14 April 2017
Time: 20:00 - 02:00 (I woke up from this dream naturally)
Type of dream: Normal dream
Dream recall: Weak recall
Scene 1: A Large Building, Location Unknown - Day
I was walking through a large building, which had a huge open room with a polished floor, and glass doors at the end, leading outside. I had to walk through the big room to get to the doors. I was with a male dream character - I think it may have been DL. I was carrying a polythene shopping bag and had some sort of head injury, right on the centre of my forehead, which was bleeding. The injury did not hurt and was not bothering me especially. As we walked through the room, I saw LW, a lady who I work alongside at university. She was with a large group of adults, who were all standing in front of her. I think she was teaching them dance or martial arts, because they were raising their arms and moving at the same time, copying LW. When LW saw DL and I she started screaming at us: 'Shut up! Fuck off!' (this is so out-of-character for the real LW, who is extremely friendly and calm). I shouted back: 'We weren't making any noise!' (we were not), but LW kept on shouting at us to 'shut up' and 'fuck off', incredibly angry and aggressive, like she wanted to attack us. As soon as we reached the glass doors (I could see that it was sunny outside) I turned and shouted at her: 'I have a head injury and I'm just trying to get outside!'
Scene 2: The Fowler/Beale Lounge (EastEnders) - Night
I was then in the lounge which in the BBC soap, EastEnders belonged to the Fowler family and later the Beales (their relatives). It was dark and I was not an active part of this scene, it was more like I was observing the action taking place, although it felt like 'real life', not actors in a TV soap. I saw Phil Mitchell (played by Steve McFadden) enter the room by the door which leads from the front hall. I could sense he was in a bad mood, or was upset/angry about something and there was a feeling of tension and unease. He sat down at the table in the dark and wrote a letter, which was a 'confession letter' although I am not sure what the content was. A short while later, a male dream character summonsed Phil to the window behind him, which was partially open. This dream character wanted the confession letter. Phil handed it to him, but was reluctant, saying: 'Keep it a secret'. The male dream character said that he was going to make the confession letter public and an argument broke out between him and Phil. I only ever saw the hand of the dream character which came through the window, nothing more. Eventually, it was agreed that the male dream character would only take one page of the letter and returned the rest of it (written on A4 paper) back through the window to Phil.
I cannot recall anything else about this dream.

At first, I found this dream to be somewhat boring, until I started considering the Day Residue aspect of it, which revealed the complex interlinking of various recent waking stimuli.

Recurrent Dream Themes:
- None of note
Dreamsigns:
- The conduct of LW
- I had a head injury which did not bother me until I wanted to use it as an excuse for why I was walking through the room in Scene 1
- I was a passive observer of action involving soap characters
Day Residue:
- A couple of days before this dream, DL and I had been walking across campus when we saw LW - who called out to me for a brief, friendly chat
- On 10 April 2017, the news was filled with reporting/photographs of an incident on an United Airlines flight which had been overbooked. When no passengers voluntarily gave up their seats for employees of the airline to take up, police forcibly removed Dr David Dao (aged 69), causing him serious injuries. Photographs showed him with blood on his face shortly after the shocking and traumatic incident
- On the day of this dream I had read an online article about Eastenders
- On the day of this dream I had read an online article about Friends (specifically the character 'Rachel Green' played by Jennifer Anniston), which cited S04E01 - 'The One with the Jellyfish' in which Rachel writes an 36-page letter to Ross Gellar (David Schwimmer)
- On the day of this dream I had been listening to the old XFM radio show (via Youtube) of Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant and Karl Pilkington. In one broadcast, Karl did a segment called 'Do We Really Need Them?' where he asked experts about the necessity of certain animals which he doesn't like - the first being jellyfish. I was not aware of the link between the title of the Friends episode in which Rachel writes the letter (the article I had read which referenced this did not provide the episode titles and I am not knowledgeable enough about the series to consciously recall the titles of any of the episodes) and the The Ricky Gervais Show broadcast in which Karl talks about jellyfish - this only became apparent to me now (while writing up this dream) having searched for the relevant title of the Friends episode and having noticed the coincidence
